Basil Al-Araj, Climate and More, by Mazin Qumsiyeh

After I sent you my message about Basil Al-Araj, there were newdevelopments. We family and friends joined a demonstration in front of theRamallah court house where Basil and his friends were being "tried" forresistance to Israel. The peaceful demonstration was attacked byPalestinian police with clubs and tear gas. Injuries and arrests happened. This is totally unacceptable and is a direct result of the shameful Osloprocess that created the Palestinian authority as a subcontractor of theoccupation. The PA was also attacking a Palestinian diaspora conference thatgathered over 5000 leading Palestinians in Turkey. It is so hard to continue as a full-time volunteer in a system that valuesconnections and nepotism and cronyism let alone challenge this system. Butwhat keeps our sanity is the work. Last week I gave seven lectures in sevendays to groups ranging from international delegations to local Palestinianuniversity students visiting our natural history museum and botanicalgarden. Today was the opening of the giant insect and dinosaur exhibit atthe convention center and we had a table there for our museum. It is agreat educational tool worth a lot of money donated via our friends ofBath-Bethlehem partnership (chaired by our friend Peter Downey). Wecontinue to do great research and our latest paper on environmentaleducation was accepted for publication and two other papers were published.Tomorrow we have a workshop at the museum (you are invited if you are inBethlehem) titled:*Working with Climate Models and data to understand consequences of climatechangeWednesday, 15 March 2017 from 4-6 P.M. Palestine Museum of NaturalHistory at Bethlehem University Mar Andrea campus(http://palestinenature.org/visit <http://palestinenature.org/visit>).*An experienced British researcher in high performance computing for anumber of research groups in climate science from Scotland will present anoverview of climate data: the sources that people use for research inclimate-related domains: observation, models, "reanalysis" data thatsynthesizes these. Climate modelling: what is a climate model really for? What does the IPCC (the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) and itsCoupled Model Intercomparison Projects have to say about this part of theworld? Strategies for using climate data, with particular reference tobiodiversity. Technologies, data standards and associated software that aremost commonly used in computation. This is a wake-up calls to Arabs andMuslims (including Palestinian "leaders"). Please listen carefully andstart to think of actions (not words) of how we might work for humanrights, international law, countering Israeli apartheid, racism and ethniccleansing. Please listen carefully. The one good thing about the Trumpadministration is that the fig leaf (that was provided by the Obamaadministration) was dropped and we can and should say finally the emperoris naked. This is naked, ugly and violent puppet American foreign policyand now without a fig leaf. Obama dropped 26,000 bombs in his last year inoffice and gave Israel 38 billion dollars. Where was your dignity? Now,where is your dignity 1.7 billion Muslims and 400 million Arab Christianand Muslims? and 7 billion human beings who are not Zionists or puppets ofthe Zionists?https://youtu.be/uv8Hqlubst4Israel interferes in our politics all the time, and it’s never a scandal byPhilip Weisshttp://mondoweiss.net/2017/02/interferes-politics-scandal/#sthash.uCuuW2qf.dpufLondon Review of Books: A short history of the Trump Familyhttps://www.lrb.co.uk/v39/n04/sidney-blumenthal/a-short-history-of-the-trump-familyStay HumanMazin QumsiyehA bedouin in cyberspace, a villager at homeProfessor and (volunteer) DirectorPalestine Museum of Natural HistoryPalestine Institute of Biodiversity and SustainabilityBethlehem UniversityOccupied Palestinehttp://qumsiyeh.orghttp://palestinenature.orgJoin me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/mazin.qumsiyeh.9
