'Poison gas flows from the capsule of a multicultural open society, which is deadly to the European way of life.'He went on to characterize Soros as 'the liberal Fuhrer,' insisting that the businessman's 'liber-aryan army deifies him more than did Hitler's own.'The article was penned as a rebuke of Brussels' growing animosity toward Poland and Hungary, over alleged violations of legal norms and human rights within the bloc. According to Demeter, Hungarians and Poles are the 'new Jews' of Europe. Both countries have moved to block language in a European Union budget that could withhold Covid-19 relief funds from nations accused of not honoring democratic standards. Warsaw and Budapest have denounced the provision as a witch hunt aimed at their socially conservative governments. While the Hungarian government has been outspoken about its opposition to Soros and his well-funded advocacy for liberal causes, including the EU's controversial open-door migrant policy, leading to an immigration crisis, Demeter's article appears to have crossed a red line for many. The op-ed sparked outrage from Hungary's Unified Hungarian Jewish Congregation, which lambasted the article as 'tasteless' and 'unforgivable.'The Israeli Embassy in Budapest expressed similar outrage.'There is no place for connecting the worst crime in human history, or its perpetrators, to any contemporary debate, no matter how essential,' the Israeli diplomatic mission wrote in a tweet.Soros, himself a Jew, grew up in Hungary and survived the Holocaust. However, some argued that outrage over Demeter's metaphors was misplaced.'Democrat politicians say it everyday about Trump,'noted one Twitter observer about the fury over the Hitler comparisons.Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been feuding with Soros for years, with his government enacting legislation which pushed a university and a charity funded by the billionaire out of the country.(2) Europe must not succumb to the Soros network - Viktor Orbán must not succumb to the Soros network25. 11. 2020. | source: Viktor OrbánReply to the article by George SorosMany believe that the prime minister of a country should not enter into an argument with George Soros. Their reasoning is that Soros is an economic criminal, because he made his money through speculation, ruining the lives of millions of people, and even blackmailing entire national economies. Just as governments must not negotiate with terrorists, they say, prime ministers must likewise not debate with economic criminals.Yet now I am compelled to do so, because in an article appearing on the Project Syndicate website on 18 November, the Hungarian-born speculator and billionaire George Soros issued open commands to the leaders of the European Union. In his article he instructs them to severely punish those Member States that do not want to become part of a unifying European empire under the banner of a global 'open society'.Throughout history, Europe's strength has always been derived from its nations. Although of different origins, European nations were bound together by the common roots of our faith. The foundation of our communities was the European family model, itself based on Judeo-Christian traditions. It was Christian freedom which ensured freedom of thought and culture, and which created benign competition among the continent's nations. This magnificent amalgam of contrasts made Europe the world's leading power through centuries of history.Every attempt to unify Europe under the aegis of empire has failed. Thus historical experience tells us that Europe will be great again if its nations become great again, and resist all forms of imperial ambition.Great forces are once again moving to eradicate the nations of Europe and unify the continent under the aegis of a global empire. The Soros network, which has woven itself through Europe's bureaucracy and its political elite, has for years been working to make Europe an immigrant continent. Today the Soros network, which promotes a global open society and seeks to abolish national frameworks, is the greatest threat faced by the states of the European Union. The goals of the network are obvious: to create multi-ethnic, multicultural open societies by accelerating migration, and to dismantle national decision-making, placing it in the hands of the global elite. The European Union is suffering from multiple afflictions: since 2008 an economic crisis of proportions not seen for generations; since 2015 a migration crisis; and in 2020 a devastating global pandemic. Europe has still not recovered from its previous crises, and so the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has the potential for even greater distress. There are already signs of this: in several countries public debt, unemployment rates and the general economic situation have reached critical levels. The need for European solidarity, for European nations to come together to help each other, has never been greater.During all these crises, this speculator – who calls himself a philanthropist – did not consider the interests of the people of Europe, but acted to his own advantage. Memorably he attacked the Hungarian forint and Hungary's largest bank in the economic crisis, and he planned to speed up, distribute and finance the resettlement of immigrants during the migrant crisis; and now he is proposing that Member States punish one another, instead of embracing solidarity and mutual assistance. The network directed by George Soros has now discarded any hesitancy it may have had about open intervention. He wants to put more pressure on nation states than ever before. He is setting the peoples of Europe against one another. The network's operational system is labyrinthine, and is present in various arenas of public life. On the payroll of George Soros are a long list of politicians, journalists, judges, bureaucrats and political agitators masquerading as members of civil society organizations. And although the billionaire accuses all his enemies of corruption, he himself is the most corrupt man in the world. He pays off and buys whoever he can – and those whom he cannot bribe will be slandered, humiliated, intimidated and destroyed by the network through its formidable weapon: the left-wing media battalions. Many high-ranking EU bureaucrats are working with the Soros network to create a unified empire. They want to build an institutional system that, under the aegis of the open society, seeks to force a unified way of thinking, a unified culture and a unified social model on Europe's free and independent nations. They seek to rescind the right of every people to decide its own destiny. This is also the purpose of their 'rule of law' proposal – which does not, in fact, recognize the rule of law, but of strength. It would be more honest to call it the 'rule of the majority'.The differences between us are obvious. Soros wants an open society, while we want a safe society. According to him, democracy can only be liberal, while we think it can be Christian. According to him, freedom can only serve self-realization, while we believe that freedom can also be used to follow the teachings of Christ, to serve one's country, and to protect our families. The basis of Christian freedom is the freedom to decide. This is now in jeopardy. We in the eastern part of the EU know very well what it means to be free. The history of the nations of Central Europe has been a relentless struggle for freedom against great empires, a repeated battle to win our right to decide our own destinies. We have bitter first-hand experience that every imperial endeavor brings enslavement. There are still quite a few here from the generation of freedom fighters – in the former Eastern Bloc, from Estonia to Slovenia, from Dresden to Sofia – who can personally remember what it is like to oppose tyranny, the rule of man and its communist version: intimidation, material and moral ruination, physical and mental abuse. We want no more of that.Western leaders who have lived their whole lives in a world of inherited freedom and the rule of law should now listen to those who have fought for freedom and who – based on their personal life experiences – can distinguish between the rule of law and tyranny, or the rule of man. Such Western leaders must accept that in the 21st century we shall not surrender the freedom we fought to achieve at the end of the 20th century. The battle for and against the new Brussels empire has not yet been decided. Brussels seems to be surrendering, but many nation states continue to resist. If we want to preserve our freedom, Europe must not succumb to the Soros network.(3) Europe Must Stand Up to Hungary and Poland - George Soros Must Stand Up to Hungary and PolandNov 18, 2020GEORGE SOROSThe European Union cannot afford to compromise on the rule-of-law provisions it applies to the funds it allocates to member states. How the EU responds to the challenge to those provisions now posed by Hungary and Poland will determine whether it survives as an open society true to the values upon which it was founded.NEW YORK – Hungary and Poland have vetoed the European Union's proposed €1.15 trillion ($1.4 trillion) seven-year budget and the €750 billion European recovery fund. Although the two countries are the budget's biggest beneficiaries, their governments are adamantly opposed to the rule-of-law conditionality that the EU has adopted at the behest of the European Parliament. They know that they are violating the rule of law in egregious ways, and do not want to pay the consequences.President Donald Trump's recent election defeat is a necessary step toward restoring sanity to American politics. But it is only the first of many steps that will be required to convince the world that the US no longer poses a threat to itself or others. It is not so much an abstract concept like the rule of law that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and, to a lesser extent, Poland's de facto ruler, Jaros?aw Kaczyn´ski, oppose. For them, the rule of law represents a practical limit on personal and political corruption. The veto is a desperate gamble by two serial violators. It was also an unprecedented step, coming at a moment when Europe is suffering from a dangerous surge of COVID-19 cases, and it threw the other EU countries' representatives into confusion. But when the shock wore off, closer analysis revealed that there is a way around the veto. The rule-of-law regulations have been adopted. In case there is no agreement on a new budget, the old budget, which expires at the end of 2020, is extended on a yearly basis. Hungary and Poland would not receive any payments under this budget, because their governments are violating the rule of law.Likewise, the recovery fund, called Next Generation EU, could be implemented by using an enhanced cooperation procedure, as Guy Verhofstadt has proposed. If the EU went down this road, the Orbán-Kaczyn´ski veto could be circumvented. The question is whether the EU, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel perhaps leading the way, can muster the political will.I am a committed supporter of the EU as a model of an open society built on the rule of law. Being of Hungarian Jewish origin, I am particularly concerned with the situation in Hungary, where I have been active as a philanthropist for more than 30 years.Orbán has constructed in Hungary an elaborate kleptocratic system to rob the country blind. The amount by which he has enriched his family and friends is difficult to estimate but many of them have become exceedingly wealthy. Orbán is now using the new wave of COVID-19 to amend the Hungarian Constitution and the electoral law (once again) and to entrench himself as prime minister for life by constitutional means. That is a tragedy for the Hungarian people.Let me give a few examples of how Orbán has robbed the Hungarian people. He has transferred vast sums of public money to a number of private foundations that he indirectly controls. By a clever constitutional trick, Orbán is now permanently removing these assets from the public domain; it would take a two-thirds majority of Parliament to return them to the Hungarian people. The amounts involved add up to nearly $2.8 billion. In a series of fraudulent transactions, companies close to Orbán purchased over 16,000 ventilators on behalf of Hungary for almost $1 billion, far exceeding the number of intensive care beds and medical personnel that could operate them. An analysis of international trade data shows that Hungary paid the most in the EU for ventilators from China, at one point paying over 50 times more than Germany. One of these companies also secured an order from Slovenia, whose prime minster, Janez Jans?a, is a close political ally of Orbán. The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) needs to investigate whether the EU was defrauded. The recent contract for the Russian vaccine that will make Hungary the first European country to use it deserves to be investigated. At the same time, Orbán is seeking to avoid accountability for these actions, and taking steps to prevent a repeat of the local elections in 2019, when his Fidesz party lost control of the municipal government of Budapest and other major cities. He is going out of his way to deprive Budapest of financial resources, vetoing the city's application to borrow money from the European Investment Bank to buy new mass transportation equipment amenable to social distancing. Budapest is now looking at a $290 million shortfall in its budget for 2021. Similar conditions prevail in other cities with local governments that are not controlled by Fidesz.Hungary's opposition parties are bravely trying to challenge Orbán by forming a common list of candidates for the 2022 general election. But their chances of success are limited because Orbán can change the rules at short notice, as he has already done several times before. Conveniently, Orbán is planning to introduce the latest changes to the electoral law while the pandemic is raging, Budapest is under curfew, and soldiers are patrolling the streets. Moreover, Orbán exercises almost total control over the countryside, where the majority of the population lives. He controls the information they receive, and voting in many villages is not secret. There is practically no way the opposition can prevail.Only the EU can help. EU funds, for example, should be directed to local authorities, where there is still a functioning democracy in Hungary, unlike at the national level. The EU can't afford to compromise on the rule-of-law provisions. How it responds to the challenge posed by Orbán and Kaczyn´ski will determine whether it survives as an open society true to the values upon which it was founded.(4) EU Rift Widens Into Diplomatic War: Hungary Agrees Not To Accept Budget If Poland Doesn't Tyler DurdenThu, 11/26/2020 - 12:05The internal European Union rift has widened and is threatening to turn into full diplomatic war as Poland and Hungary have remained resolute in blocking the new EU budget. On Thursday Hungary's Prime Ministery Viktor Orbán announced that after Germany's failed attempt to 'harmonize positions' over the proposed 1.8 trillion-euro ($2.1 trillion) budget, he signed a joint statement with his Polish ally pledging that neither will accept unless both do.'Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Thursday said his country would have Poland's backing in the continued row over the European Union's insistence that its member states respect the rule of law or lose access to budget funds,' Reuters reports. Both are standing firm against linking 'Rule of Law' and the 'financial interests' of the Union, which remains the central issue they want to press in debate before the European Council, which appears a political ploy to undermine sovereignty of member states.'Orban, standing alongside Poland's premier Mateusz Morawiecki, said in a press statement in Budapest that the current proposal on the EU's table was unacceptable to Budapest and Warsaw, who will form a tandem in the debate after a joint veto, which Orban called a legitimate tool in the dispute,' Reuters continues. This after mounting pressure in the past few days which saw the French and German Ambassadors to Warsaw demand that Hungary and Poland 'show solidarity' during the COVID-19 pandemic. What's turning into an EU game of chicken over the vital budget is fairly straightforward, which perhaps has made each side harden in their demands:Hungary and Poland, with the backing of Slovenia, remain adamant in their refusal to approve the bloc's $2.1 trillion budget while rule-of-law conditions remain in place for countries to receive money from a separate $750 million coronavirus recovery fund.Brussels and western Europeans seem equally determined to leverage coronavirus relief money to force compliance with the standards they say are necessary to block democratic backsliding by Hungary and Poland. The EU has targeted both countries as part of an investigation related to the independence of courts and the media..@vonderleyen sent a letter to #Orban & @MorawieckiM where she explains that any decision under the #RuleOfLaw conditionality might be brought to the #ECJ. She also says the regulation doesn't circumvent the #Art7 procedure because it's strictly linked to the EU budget@nepszava— Katalin Halmai (@eublogo) November 26, 2020Poland and Hungary are taking an aggressive stand against what many see as the European Union's attempt to 'force foreign values upon member nations' - this after West European nations have frequently derided Polish President Andrzej Duda and Hungary's Orbán as 'authoritarian regimes' - something also echoed widely in US and UK media. The current budget and coronavirus relief proposal before the EU would block funds to member countries seen as not adhering to 'democratic standards'. This language was put in place from the start of November, thus Hungary and Poland see signing off on it as self-destructive, as it would be further detrimental to their own sovereignty.Previously Orbán told a state radio broadcaster that 'Hungary can't be blackmailed,' explaining further that: 'The rule-of-law debate sounds like it's about the law but it's a political debate.'(5) Biden plans "roadmap to citizenship" for almost 11 million illegal immigrants is gearing up to guide millions of illegal immigrants to citizenshipBiden has committed to a long list of Trump executive orders that he plans to reverse as soon as he enters office, and a large chunk of them are immigration policies.Celine RyanNovember 30, 2020 3:06 AMAs the big tech tyrants tighten their grip, join us for more free speech at Parler—the anti-censorship social media platform.Joe Biden already has plans to soften border security and stop wall construction.Biden has committed to a long list of Trump policies that he plans to reverse as soon as he enters office, and a large chunk of them are immigration policies. The reversal of Trump's Travel Ban and a "roadmap to citizenship" for almost 11 million illegal immigrants are two of the first items on Biden's presidential to do list, as highlighted in a recent Axios report.Biden's website espouses the "right" and "duty" of the U.S. to "secure our borders and protect our people against threats.""But we know that immigrants and immigrant communities are not a threat to our security, and the government should never use xenophobia or fear tactics to scare voters for political gain," it continues.Biden's plan to prop up illegal immigrants includes putting a 100 day hold on all deportations and halting border wall construction, as well as reinforcing DACA.Biden spokesperson Jennifer Molina told Axios that the plan is to "work to ensure our immigration policies are reflective of our American values."Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy requiring asylum seekers to wait for court dates in Mexico before entering the united states, is also under the gun.Biden's plans to deal with the inevitable sudden influx of immigrants brought about by these policy changes by investing in in Central American refugee programs. He has also stated that he will generally "Increase the number of refugees we welcome into the country," setting the annual cap for refugees at 125,000 and continuing to raise it over time.(6) 'F*** Thanksgiving!': Antifa Topples Statues of George Washington, Veterans to Fight 'Colonization' TYLER O'NEIL NOV 28, 2020 12:31 PM ETWhile most Americans were eating turkey and stuffing at whatever kind of socially-distanced gathering their state government would allow, "peaceful protesters" — who never spread the coronavirus, apparently — toppled statues and spray-painted anti-Thanksgiving messages to celebrate the holiday. Vandals targeted statues of President William McKinley in Chicago, a veterans monument in Portland, an Abraham Lincoln statue in Spokane, Wash., and two statues in Minneapolis: one of George Washington and another celebrating pioneers."Stop colinization [sic]. End Thanksgiving. F**k 12," vandals spray-painted on the plinth of the Washington statue in Washburn Fair Oaks Park in Minneapolis. The vandals targeted the statue either late on Wednesday night or early on Thanksgiving morning.A George Washington statue in South Minneapolis’ Washburn Fair Oaks Park was toppled this morning."Stop colonization," "end Thanksgiving," & "fuck 12" was scrawled into the mantel which held the statue.Story:— Unicorn Riot (@UR_Ninja) November 27, 2020A group organizing under the Pan-Indigenous People’s Liberation (PIPL) network took credit for the vandalism, which they said was part of a "national decolonial day of action."A few miles away from the Washington statue, vandals also targeted a large granite monument to pioneers in the city’s B.F. Nelson Park. The Minneapolis Park and Rec. board is working to "address and respond using a racial equity lens" (WCCO)— WDBJ7 (@WDBJ7) November 27, 2020"Land back" seemingly refers to The LANDBACK campaign, a Native American movement supposedly fighting "white supremacy." The campaign calls for the dismantling of the "white supremacy structures" supposedly responsible for removing Native Americans from their lands, including the Bureau of Land Management and the National Park Service; for the defunding of "white supremacy" in the forms of the police, the military-industrial complex, Border Patrol, and ICE; a "return" of "all public lands back into Indigenous hands"; and a policy of "consent."This iconoclasm is nothing new. While it began with Confederate monuments, this summer vandals progressed to targeting America’s heroes, such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln. Then came Mahatma Gandhi, Union General Ulysses S. Grant, black Union soldiers, and freed slave Frederick Douglass. Vandals even attacked a monument to 9/11 firefighters and painted a statue of Jesus black. However, targeting patriotic symbols just before Thanksgiving seems particularly disgusting.Early on Wednesday morning, police prevented vandals from toppling a statue of President William McKinley in a Chicago park. The vandals tethered a rope to a police car and spray-painted the statue with the words "Land Back," NBC 5 Chicago reported. Activists have condemned McKinley, who served as president from 1897 to his death in 1901, as a racist because he championed westward expansion.Vandals Try to Pull Down Chicago Park's McKinley Statue— NBC Chicago (@nbcchicago) November 28, 2020Vandals in Spokane, Wash., spilled red paint on a statue of Abraham Lincoln in an attack that may or may not have been related to the "Land Back" campaign.Someone is not feeling so thankful on this holiday as the Abe Lincoln statue on Main & Monroe in Downtown Spokane has now been vandalized.SPD is looking into this. @kxly4news— Maher Kawash (@MaherKXLY) November 26, 2020New York Times Finally Admits the Black Lives Matter Riots Left ‘Long-Term Economic Damage’In Portland, the antifa group Youth Liberation Front called for "a decentralized, anti-colonial day of action on Thanksgiving eve," with the message, "F**k Thanksgiving, F**k Black Friday!"The Youth Liberation Front, an antifa group, was one of several who incited violence in Portland to oppose Thanksgiving.— Andy Ngô (@MrAndyNgo) November 27, 2020An antifa mob broke windows and sprayed graffiti, including the phrase "Land Back." In that article, Harvard University professor Tiya Miles argues that "Thanksgiving is a holiday long past due for an overhaul."Miles claims that the mythology of the first Thanksgiving "is based on a misunderstanding of the early relationships between Wampanoag residents and the English newcomers at Massachusetts Bay." She notes that Tisquantum (popularly known as Squanto) served as a translator between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims, having learned English during his capture and enslavement in England. She also notes that the Wampanoag leader Pumetacom allied with the Narragansetts and Nipmucks in a war against the colonists that ended in the natives’ defeat. "Thousands would be killed or sold into slavery in the conflict, which ended Indigenous independence in New England. It is no wonder that some Native American families see Thanksgiving as a day of mourning," she writes.Much of the history between Native Americans and European settlers is indeed tragic, but leftist narratives often deprive the victims of their agency. Tisquantum, for instance, appears to have been plotting to overthrow the Wampanoag leader before Tisquantum’s untimely death, and his machinations likely contributed to the ultimate Puritan victory. History is far messier than the simple narrative of evil European colonialism and "white supremacy" suggests.Americans should reexamine our history, but the nefarious message of Marxist critical race theory suggests we should upend society in order to satisfy historical grievances in the name of racial justice. This toxic vision undermines the very real progress America has made in terms of establishing civil rights regardless of race and in terms of securing broad prosperity through a free market economy.Americans have a great deal for which to be thankful, even in the midst of a pandemic. Rather than railing against the supposed oppressors who established and celebrated Thanksgiving, these vandals should consider just how indebted they are to the system that provides peace and prosperity to the United States.Editor’s Note: Want to support PJ Media so we can keep telling the truth about the riots and attacks on law enforcement? Perhaps if they're so concerned about the welfare of American Indians and tribal issues(a valid topic of discussion), they should give up their own land, property and massive wealth, as opposed to smugly lecturing the general public. ==(9) Portland Rioters Cause Thousands Of Dollars In Damage On Thanksgiving Night, 11/27/2020 - 11:45Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times,Rioters in Oregon's largest city on Thanksgiving caused thousands of dollars in damage, authorities said.A group of people dressed in black clothing were witnessed smashing windows along Hawthorne Street in the early hours of Nov. 26, according to the Portland Police Bureau.Officers canvassed the area and found that damage had been inflicted upon at least 10 businesses in the area."Some of the damage was sufficient to provide access to the interior of retail stores so officers contacted responsible parties and stood by while contractors or employees boarded up windows. Grocery stores, banks, an auto service center, a package distribution and mailing center, and local business storefronts were damaged," the bureau said in an incident summary.A New Seasons Market, a Chase Bank, and Portland Cider House were among the businesses that were damaged, photographs and video footage showed. Multiple Antifa logos were sprayed with paint onto the buildings.Three people were arrested: Chester Hester, 24; Nicole Noriega, 38; and Bailey Willack, 23. They were each charged with 10 counts of first-degree criminal mischief.According to Andy Ngo, a reporter who is an expert on the far-left Antifa network, Willack is a member of the network.Police said another adult was found with a semi-automatic pistol. That person, who was not named, was referred to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office."Based on witness statements, it is likely that more people were involved in these crimes and police will try to determine their identity through further investigation," police said.A spokesman for Portland Mayor and Police Commissioner Ted Wheeler, a Democrat, didn't respond to a request for comment.Riots and protests took place nearly every night in Portland for months this year. The situation has calmed down in recent weeks, but sporadic explosions of violence still occur. The vandalism came after the PNW Youth Liberation Front, a group linked to Antifa, called for "direct action" in Twitter posts that said, "[Expletive] Thanksgiving."Direct action is a term that refers to targeting buildings that anarchists feel represent things they oppose. The Front called on taking direct action "to attack symbols and structures of colonialism and capitalism."The group later shared a report from an Antifa website that praised the toppling of a memorial for the Mexican-American War at a cemetery in Portland on Nov. 25.Vandals sprayed graffiti that said, "[Expletive]" USA," and "Eat [expletive] colonizers."(10) Antifa are communist terrorists AntifaA new book exposes the origins, nature, tactics, and aims of this dangerous "idea."Fri Nov 27, 2020 Mark Tapson 0Mark Tapson is the Shillman Fellow on Popular Culture for the David Horowitz Freedom Center. The other day on Facebook a friend posted something critical of the domestic terror group known as Antifa, and someone came to its defense by echoing Clueless Joe Biden’s recent, bizarre declaration that Antifa is not an organization but "an idea."It is true that Antifa is not an organization in the strict sense, but Biden’s vague description is either stunningly uninformed or a weak attempt to deflect criticism from its masked militant members. I’m betting on the latter, because Democrat leaders have been curiously reluctant to condemn Antifa’s strategy of violence and intimidation toward the purportedly "fascist" supporters of President Trump. To educate the Facebook commenter and Biden supporter who believes Antifa actually opposes fascism, I recommended the new book Unmasking Antifa: Five Perspectives on a Growing Threat, edited by the Center for Security Policy and featuring FrontPage Mag contributor Matthew Vadum, because there is no better dissection of the origins, nature, tactics, and aims of this anarchic "idea" and its dangerous adherents than this compact exposé.As the subtitle suggests, Unmasking Antifa consists of five essays from a variety of experts about the movement that the book’s editor Kyle Shideler calls "a growing threat to the fabric of the American way of life and the inalienable rights of all citizens enshrined in our Constitution."First up is Shideler himself, whose testimony before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on the Constitution lays out Antifa’s history and ideology, organization and structure, and network of material support before answering the question, is Antifa a terrorist organization? Shideler concludes that it most certainly is, that "Antifa’s violent attacks against demonstrators, political rally participants, and journalists with the explicit purpose of intimidating and coercing them are clearly terrorism." He states that the movement’s single-minded purpose is to use violence to "terrorize the general public into silence and inaction" politically. As former professor Mark Bray writes approvingly in Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, "We may not always be able to change someone’s beliefs, but we sure as hell can make it politically, socially, economically, and sometimes physically costly to articulate them."Antifa is not a new movement, Shideler explains, but a reincarnation of the Anti-Fascist Action organization established by the Soviet-controlled German Communist Party in 1932, and rekindled among Europe’s communist urban guerrillas of the 1960s and ‘70s. "The young followers of radicals from [that era] are now among the organizers, funders, leaders of young radicals in 2020," he writes. "They have worked their entire lives for this moment."The next contributor is Gabriel Nadales, a former Antifa-member-turned-conservative-activist who offers a riveting insider perspective in his essay, "Not an Organization, But a Movement." Antifa is more easily understood, he explains, "not as a noun but as an adjective and a verb." The adjective applies to a leftist group when it embraces "anti-fascism"; the verb refers to its willingness to promote its ideas with violence – and "you are not truly a part of the Antifa movement unless you take that violent step toward ‘fighting fascism.’""Antifa does not stand for anything," Nadales continues. It "is instead defined by what it stands against," which is whatever its adherents choose to define as "fascist." But it "was never about fighting an oppressive ideology. Antifa has always been about fighting to destroy capitalism and establish communism."As for the organization’s diffuse leadership structure, Nadales identifies three different fronts: the national thought leaders like Mark Bray or former Rep. Keith Ellison who help legitimize Antifa’s ideology; the regional leaders like unhinged Bay Area activist Yvette Felarca who organize large protests; and locally-organized independent leaders. Nadales’ insights into the workings of these different levels, and into Antifa’s funding and methods of recruitment, are very enlightening."The Tactics of Antifa" follows, by Northern California GOP activist Erin Smith. Smith echoes much of Shideler’s and Nadales’ points, and adds that "Antifa seeks to directly engage with its political opponents… to make their continued presence impossible. They are not interested in winning a political debate or achieving a legislative objective." (Conservatives, take heed; we are engaged in a war, not a debate, and Antifa is out to win by any means necessary.) "Their secondary objective," Smith continues, "is to provoke disproportionate, high-intensity violence from their opponents, which can then be exploited for propaganda purposes." Thanks to the assistance of the leftist news media, Antifa has "an almost uncontested ability to cast any right-leaning opposition as literal Nazis."Smith goes on to describe in fascinating detail Antifa’s organizing units – "affinity groups" and "black blocs" – and their street warfare tactics and training, including with firearms. Not that they have any special reverence for the Second Amendment; as Smith points out, "In their world… you only accrue a right to bear arms if you agree to use them to advance collective class interests and the revolution."Investigative reporter Matthew Vadum, a frequent FrontPage Mag contributor, explores "The Murky Money Trail" of Antifa, pointing out that "we know surprisingly little about who fills Antifa’s coffers." While Antifa’s activities are individually low-budget, "the sheer number and scale of the riots and violent protest actions Antifa was involved in throughout 2020 across the United States makes it difficult for many to believe Antifa militants act without significant financial backing."Vadum notes that the movement receives direct funding through sources such as crowdfunding, and indirect funding through support organizations such as the Democratic Socialists of America and especially the National Lawyers Guild, which has been called Antifa’s "unofficial legal arm." Predictably, the name of billionaire plutocrat activist George Soros comes up, as his Open Society Foundations funds Antifa indirectly. Finally, J. Michael Waller looks at the international nature of Antifa and its place in the history of violent leftist groups in "Antifa: An International Insurgent Network." "Antifa has borrowed tactics from Cuban-backed armed clandestine organizations, radical Palestinian groups that waged the Intifada, and Islamist movements ranging from the Muslim Brotherhood to Turkish-backed jihadis," Waller concludes. Ideologically a hybrid of anarchism and Marxism, it is "of foreign origin, is networked internationally, and is targeted at representative democratic governments and their constitutional foundations." That sounds like more than just an "idea," as Biden would put it.Antifa is not merely an idea any more than it is anti-fascist. It is, as the book’s editor Shideler warns, a subversive and violent extremist international movement… fundamentally committed to the abolition of the U.S. government and the violent overthrow of the United States Constitution." All patriots need to arm themselves with the clear-eyed truths about the movement that are compiled in Unmasking Antifa. We misunderstand Antifa, or underestimate it, at our nation’s peril.
