Mazin Qumsiyeh

On the 15th of November, six Palestinian activists: Nadeem Al-Sharbate, Huwaida Arraf, Dr.Mazin Qumsieyeh, Fadi Qura’an, Basel Al-Araj, and Badee’ Dwaik, boarded a segregated Israeli bus used by Israeli settlers to Jerusalem in an attempt to highlight the regime of discrimination on freedom of movement in place in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and the fact that Palestinians cannot access Jerusalem freely. After boarding the bus without incidents, the bus was stopped at the Hizme checkpoint, where all the activists were arrested and violently forcibly removed from the bus. ~ Intifada Palestine

Lies and truths about Syria, by Thierry Meyssan | Voltaire Network

For eight months, Western leaders and some public media have been agitating for a war in Syria. The extremely serious accusations leveled against Assad intimidate those who question the justification for a new military intervention. But not everyone, because - on the initiative of Voltaire Network - some came to Syria to investigate for themselves and were able to measure the extent of NATO’s propaganda...

Jack Abramoff, Whipping Boy, by Russell Mokhiber | Counterpunch
...“One of the most effective ways for us to control a Congressional office is to offer the chief of staff a job when they decide to leave Capitol Hill,” Abramoff said. “And for the time they remained as the chief of staff, we were in control of that office. He or she wasn’t going to allow anything to happen that wouldn’t featherbed where they were going later. They went out of their way. They over-performed in many cases. It is really an incredibly corrupt aspect of what goes on out there. There are a lot of reasons why the revolving door has to be slammed shut. But that alone is a good enough reason.”..

Saudi Wahhabism and Conspiracies: A Brief History, by Haytham A. K. Radwan | Intifada Palestine

While Islam as a faith is the main religion in 48 countries, and Muslims around the globe are rapidly growing, Saudi Islam is the main sectarian movement in Saudi Arabia, and its influence is also rapidly growing. Acting as the protector of Islam through its own form of Islam, while it remains an American client state through its location, petrodollar’s cheque book, and American diplomatic and military protection, it could be argued that among the major influential players, Saudi Arabia’s policies, its own form of Islam, and its relations with the US, undoubtedly constitute one of the most serious threats to the security of the world today...

In Modern America, Liking Peace Is Considered Terrorism| Washington's Blog
"Why of course the people don’t want war … But after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship … Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

Are the Freedom Rides a detour for the struggle? by Linah Alsaafin | The Electronic Intifada

Is Palestine’s an anti-colonial or civil rights struggle?

...The Freedom Rides were intended as an anti-colonial act mirroring a previous and successful civil rights one. But our struggle is not a civil rights one. It is a struggle against a foreign occupation. We must be calling for the liberation of an indigenous population under a devastating settler-colonial rule, one that has continued to ethnically cleanse, commit large scale massacres, impose collective punishment, imprison and restrict the movement of Palestinians for decades...
[Comments were not enabled for this piece, so I'll insert one here. The problem is the author's either/or statement: "our struggle is not a civil rights one. It is a struggle against a foreign occupation." The real issue is one of strategy. How do you turn the tide of world opinion where it counts, in America? By invoking the Civil Rights Movement heretofore confused Americans might well begin to wake up and start to apply some pressure on a government that is in the pocket of the Zionist Lobby. This would obviously start with African-Americans, veterans of the American civil rights struggle and most important of all, the OWS movement. This could be a game changer.

Linah Alsaafin's well written and articulate essay reminds me of all the missed opportunities that litter the history of the Palestinian resistance, which has been one of mistake after mistake. This is understandable, as the Palestinians, prior to the Ashkenazi stealth invasion, were a thoroughly peaceful, highly civilized people, who understandably had a hard time coming to grips with what was happening to them - a ruthless colonialist theft of their land starting with a vicious outburst of ethnic cleansing followed by a 60+ years ongoing genocide. I think it is fair to say that we are talking about an entire people who have been suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome. It is for this reason that I am not one of those people who repeat the tired old mantra that we should follow the lead of the Palestinians. That way lies failure. Instead, we must trust our own intelligence and wisdom. However, in this case I am foursquare behind the Palestinian lead Freedom Rider initiative. Combined with BDS, it is about the only way that the objectives of the Palestinian people and their supporters, not to mention the welfare of most of the world, might possibly be achieved.]

Lebanese MP: Syrian protesters only want overthrow, not reform | The Daily Star

The Demonization of Iran, by Patrick Cockburn | Counterpunch
...This demonization of Iran at times seems to set the stage for a military attack on Iran by the US and Israel. The propaganda build-up is very similar to that directed against Saddam Hussein’s Iraq in 2002. In both cases, an isolated state with limited resources is presented as a real danger to the region and the world. Unlikely and sometimes comical conspiracy theories are given official credence, such as the supposed plot of an Iranian-American used-car dealer in Texas teaming up with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.   We live in a time of dynamic, regressive, regime changes.  A period in which major political transformations and the dramatic roll back of a half century of socio-economic legislation are accelerated by a prolonged and deepening economic crises and a world-wide financier led offensive. This essay explores major ongoing regime changes that have a profound impact on governance, the class structures, economic institutions, political freedom and national sovereignty.  We delineate a two-stage process of political regression. The first stage involves the transition from a decaying democracy to an oligarchical democracy; the second stage currently unfolding in Europe involves the transition from oligarchical democracy to colonial-technocratic dictatorship...

Assassinating Egyptian Dreams, by Ahmed Amr | Palestine Chronicle

Tantawi is assassinating Egyptian dreams

Nostalgia for more innocent times is a comforting refuge when hope is scarce. This week, as we inhaled a toxic dose of tear gas in Tahrir Square, we were all gasping for a resurrection of the spirit of the January uprising that led to the spectacular fall of the House of Mubarak. Many Egyptians would give their right arm to relive the spirit of the 18 glorious days that dazzled our collective imagination and filled our hearts with hopes and dreams of a new dawn for young and old. Those dreams have been assassinated and we know the identity of the assassin...

Israel's Quiet War with Iran, by Derek Bolton | Antiwar
The release of November’s IAEA report sighting "credible" evidence of Iranian efforts to develop nuclear weapons has largely played into the hands of the Israeli Ministry of Defense. As Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak has sought to muster support for unilateral military strikes against Iran, many have surmised that Israeli military intervention may be imminent. However, this fails to account for the fact that Israel, through its intelligence wing the Mossad, has already been engaged in a covert war against Iran’s nuclear program for almost a decade. The only change in recent months is that this ongoing campaign has slowly become more overt...

Holocaust and Holodomor, by Nicholas Lysson | IGC
One might think the worst holocaust deniers—at least the only ones who command serious attention—are those who insist the Nazi holocaust, as it involved the Jews only, was without parallel. Guenter Lewy argues for example in The Nazi Persecution of the Gypsies (Oxford University Press, 2000) that while the Gypsies were gassed, shot and otherwise exter-minated in great numbers, right alongside the Jews, they were not true victims of  “the” Holocaust (capital “H”) but only of something collateral.   Lewy even suggests the Gypsies invited their own destruction with certain cultural traits—in particular, sharply divergent moral standards for dealing among their own and with outsiders. But pre- or anti-Enlightenment Judaism is hardly a less ethnocentric or hostile moral system...

Many of the most serious dangers facing Americans today stem from our "special relationship" with Israel | Council for the National Interest

Our uniquely massive support for Israel has cost trillions of dollars and multitudes of lives. The Influence of Israel and it's American Lobby over US Middle East Policy, by Jeffrey Blankfort | PIWP

One of the roots of this unique historical phenomenon may be found in the interpretation of a 120-year-old US Supreme Court decision that afforded corporations the same rights as individual American citizens...

Decisions to expand settlements or to further crop Palestinian towns and villages seem to enjoy the same type of unacceptable logic. In fact, this odd behavior can be easily explained. This is the result of the Israeli government being a coalition between quite different parties. On its most basic level, we are talking about a coalition between orthodox Jews - spiritual descendants of the heretical Pharisees - and Zionists...

From Tahrir Square to Wall Street and the rest of the USA, the Empire bares its fangs (again) | Vineyard of the Saker

Eustace Mullins On Rothschild Warmongering | Rense

The success of the Federal Reserve Conspiracy will raise many questions in the minds of readers who are unfamiliar with the history of the United States and finance capital. How could the Kuhn, Loeb-Morgan alliance, powerful though it might be, believe that it would be capable, first, of devising a plan which would bring the entire money and credit of the people of the United States into their hands, and second, of getting such a plan enacted into law?..

George Jahn lies about Iran's Parchin facility | Iran Affairs
The US media continues the scaremongering about Iran's nuclear program using more "anonymous sources". The latest example is George Jahn who claims in an article entitled "Suspected Nuclear Site Reportedly Increasingly Active", that according to "officials", there is an "increase in activity at an Iranian site suspected of links to alleged secret work on nuclear weapons." Note the hedging language: the site is "suspected" of having links to an alleged nuclear weapons program. What the hell does that even mean?..

Ruthlessly Pursuing Middle East Grand Strategy, by Deepak Tripathi | Palestine Chronicle

Popular uprisings that began with peaceful protests in Tunisia and Egypt nearly a year ago, and spread across the Arab world, have created a new reality, not only in countries to experience political awakening, but far beyond. More worryingly for Washington, the Arab Spring created fresh uncertainties and pressures for United States policy. With the first anniversary of those momentous events approaching, there is growing resentment among many Arabs who feel that their revolutions have been hijacked by forces not originally anticipated...

States (plus the UN) are obligated to enforce international law and human rights conventions. When they don’t, as in their failure to apply the International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid to Israel and its Occupation, the people themselves must rise up and demand that they do. If the Zionists had not pushed the US to come to the aid of Britain in WW 1, and they only did so when hated Russia pulled out, it is likely that the war would have come to an end without a German defeat, hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved and we would have seen either Hitler or the holocaust, nor for that matter, the state of Israel...

US creates an Iranian albatross, by Kaveh L Afrasiabi | Asia Times Online

Walking through the UN halls, one can still hear the echo of heated debate at the Security Council on Iraq in 2002-2003, when then-US secretary of state Colin Powell adamantly claimed that there was substantial and "irrefutable" evidence of an active and advanced Iraqi weapons of mass destruction program - that turned out to be a hoax and a mere pretext for the illegal invasion of a sovereign Middle East country...

"Nuclear Option" Against Iran's Economy Paves Way for War, by Kate Gould | FCNL
The drumbeat for another round of draconian sanctions against Iran is growing louder on Capitol Hill. While Illinois Senator Mark Kirk's proposed legislation to “collapse the Central Bank of Iran” was intended to be attached to the now-stalled international affairs funding bill, the pressure from Congress for another round of indiscriminate sanctions continues to build. Some U.S. officials have called sanctioning Iran’s Central Bank “the nuclear option” because it would deal a devastating blow to the teetering global economy, and inflict untold human suffering in Iran. Still, such an initiative is expected to receive overwhelming bipartisan support...

In 1996, an Israeli think tank, the Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies, prepared “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm” for incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In that seminal report, the Richard Perle-led study group suggested that Israel could “shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria.” Comprised mainly of American-based pro-Israel advocates, the group stressed, “Most important, it is understandable that Israel has an interest supporting diplomatically, militarily and operationally Turkey’s and Jordan’s actions against Syria, such as securing tribal alliances with Arab tribes that cross into Syrian territory and are hostile to the Syrian ruling elite.”..

Much as with the Freedom Rides that were used in the USA to dramatize the violence of Jim Crow segregation in the South, and later the Immigrant Freedom Rides to dramatize the plight of immigrants, the Palestinian Freedom Rides are about dramatizing violence—the violence that the Palestinian people face every day as a result of the Israeli Occupation...

What that "evidence" says is: Iran is working on nanodiamond production...

IAEA On Iran: Nothing But Know-How, by John Glaser | Antiwar
Most of what I think needs to be said on the Iran nuclear weapons issue I’ve already written, or has already been written elsewhere. Namely, U.S. policy influences Iran strongly towards attaining a nuclear deterrent, so the notion that Iranians have intent here should not be a surprise. The U.S. has waged two aggressive, unnecessary wars directly along Iran’s east and west borders, constantly floods the Persian Gulf with fleets of navy warships, bribes client states surrounding Iranian territory with weapons systems and money to be subservient to U.S. interests and allow U.S. military bases there, and heaps restrictive sanctions on Iran’s energy and banking industries..

The Strange Power of Qatar, by Hugh Eakin | The New York Review of Books

Doha, Qatar, with the ‘dallah,’ or coffee pot, monument in the foreground, 2010

On August 23, Libyan rebels raised their flag over Bab al-Aziziya, the once-impregnable complex housing Muammar Qaddafi’s headquarters in Tripoli. Though the dictator himself still remained at large, the overrunning of one of the nerve centers of his regime had enormous symbolic power and seemed to offer definitive proof of the rebels’ strength. And yet on several newscasts, a different story about the uprising was emerging: along with the rebels’ tricolor with white crescent and star, the presidential compound at Bab al-Aziziya was briefly shown flying the maroon and white flag of Qatar, the tiny, gas-rich Arabian emirate more than two thousand miles away...

What does 'Death to Israel' mean to you? by Bradley Burston | Haaretz
Burston: "..if progressives cannot see Israelis as people, if they cannot summon up the same compassion and concern for unarmed combatants on both sides of a battle front, it's time they checked their ideology for holes.'
Gideon Levy, also in Haaretz: "The only recognition that is needed now is Israel's recognition of the Palestinians as human beings. If this is obtained, all the rest will be relatively easy."

Burston: "..The assumption is that Israel's crimes are of such Third Reich magnitude, that anti-civilian violence committed by its enemies is either negligible or justified."
Editor: Compared to the massive terrorism inflicted on the Palestinians for nearly the last 100 years, the violence they have responded with is indeed negligible. Moreover, armed resistance to colonialist aggression and occupation is specifically justified by UN legal rulings. Violence as a response to Israeli terrorism may not be a wise strategy, but the Israeli claim of self-defense is specious. We don't want to see anyone killed, or harmed in any way, especially children, but as I have almost gotten tired of saying, what goes around comes around. It's a law of nature.

Burston: "What we want for ourselves is no less just. It is, in fact, the very same: freedom to live in safety and sovereignty."
Editor: There is only one way to achieve that end. Recognize, as the South African white Nationalists finally did, that the only sane solution is to coexist with the Palestinians in a pluralistic, democratic state, or to get the hell out, like the French Colons in Algeria did. In all good conscience, "Death to Israel!!" Amen!

Israel ready to stop Gaza-bound ships, by Harriet Sherwood | The Guardian

Is Obama capable of understanding a majority of at least 140 out of 193 UN members supporting Palestine?..

Did the Age of Enlightenment never occur? by Nahida Izzat | Uprooted Palestinians

Nahida is one of the strongest, most eloquent and profound writers in our movement. And yet, in spite of being an exiled Palestinian, she is terrorised, intimidated and harassed by no others than the Jewish ‘anti’ Zionists. In the following piece Nahida brings the shocking details of the campaign against her and freedom of speech that was led by Liverpool Jewish ‘anti’ Zionist Greg Dropkin and his clan. I better say it clearly and loudly; we are not going to tolerate AZZ’s (anti Zionist Zionists) repellent behaviour forever. We are tired of Talmudic commissars. We believe in freedom of speech and freedom of expression...  ~ Gilad Atzmon

Yediot's Barnea outlines the nightmare that would follow an Israeli strike on Iran, by Nahum Barnea | Coteret
...“The ramifications are clear and harsh—like the war against Iraq, the war against Israel will also be perceived by the Iranians as a war intended to right a wrong and bring justice to the world by destroying the State of Israel.  Only a threat to the regime will be able to make the Iranian leadership stop.  It is difficult to see how Israel could create such a threat.”..

Netanyahu Threatens Gazans with Death | Stephen Lendman
Throughout its history, Israel had belligerent, racist prime ministers, none worse than Netanyahu. He talks peace but mocks and spurns it. His extremism heads Israel toward the brink. His worst ever government enrages global millions. Eventually, Israel may end up isolated and universally vilified as a pariah state...

Italian citizen sues Italy for its war against Libya | Mathaba

Tenor Giuseppe (Joe) Fallisi will testify at a tribunal in Rome on Thursday, October 27, 2011, assisted by Luke Tadolini, as a result of a complaint issued by him against the State of Italy regarding its war on Libya, which influence has been apparent in our country. Formally, the complaint is against "anonymous people", but it is clear that it includes all politicians involved in this tragic and shameful act...

Living Under Israel's Boot | Stephen Lendman
Like occupied people everywhere, Palestinians understand oppression better than experts. Ask them. They'll explain. In Gaza, it means living under siege and Israeli air, land and sea attacks. West Bank communities face day and night incursions. In the week ending October 27, 58 were conducted, nearly 10 a day...

Scott Olsen & the American Uprising Against Criminal Politics | Christopher Bollyn

"Our country has been so numb and so cruel and
it’s great that people are waking up."

..The on-going American protest movement is similar to the Palestinian Intifada in that it is a popular uprising against a criminal regime that has simply become too oppressive to bear any longer.  While the U.S. government engages in costly illegal wars and targeted assassinations in at least 6 nations the American people chafe under the heavy costs incurred by the criminal war-mongering regime in Washington...

US pulls UNESCO funding after Palestine is granted full membership, by Harriet Sherwood | The Guardian
The overwhelming backing for the Palestinians' bid to join the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization was a huge boost for their campaign for international recognition of an independent state, and a blow to Israel and the US, who had opposed the move...
[The only recognition that is needed now is Israel's recognition of the Palestinians as human beings. If this is obtained, all the rest will be relatively easy.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton shakes hands with Bahrain's Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa  When it comes to American propaganda about the Middle East, this New York Times article — detailing U.S. plans to bolster its influence in the region after it “withdraws” from Iraq — is a masterpiece. How Israel benefits the U.S., by the Hasbara twins | LA Times
American leaders have traditionally explained the foundations of the U.S.-Israel relationship by citing shared democratic values and the moral responsibility America bears to protect the small nation-state of the Jewish people. Although accurate and essential, this characterization is incomplete because it fails to capture a third, crucial aspect: the many ways in which Israel advances U.S. national interests...

Israel's Second Strike | Roy Tov
Samson | Sculpture in Ashdod

...In 1991, Random House published The Samson Option: Israel's Nuclear Arsenal and American Foreign Policy by Seymour Hersh. The largest publisher in the world, Random House is closely related to Israel and Jews, as shown in The Da Vinci Nazi; it is difficult to believe this publication took place without the approval and support of Israel. The book's title refers to the nuclear strategy whereby Israel would launch a nuclear retaliatory strike if the state was being overrun, just as the Biblical figure Samson pushed apart the pillars of a Philistine temple, bringing down the roof and killing himself and thousands of Philistines who had gathered to see him humiliated...
