Most "international students are more motivated by the prospect of securing permanent residence than undertaking an often substandard university course… In other words, we are importing low-skilled workers who aim to stay here permanently or for very long periods".Therefore, "there is an overwhelming case for avoiding the resumption of international student enrolments on the scale and type that existed prior to the pandemic".Specifically, student numbers should be curtailed by requiring a "much higher English proficiency standard… to obtain a visa as well as evidence of the -financial means to cover all costs of study… International students should also be expected to go home upon the completion of their studies" and "there should be no expectation of achieving PR after graduation".What Australian needs to avoid at all costs is returning to the pre-COVID settings whereby "all the financial benefits of having so many international students were captured by the higher education sector -itself while the costs were largely borne by the community", such as "loss of urban amenity, including excessive congestion; unsightly apartment buildings; and distortions to the unskilled segment of the labour market".Bravo Judith Sloan. MB has been making the same arguments for years.Australia’s pre-COVID concentration of international students was extreme, dwarfing all other developed nations:Sensible policy would seek to lower foreign student numbers to international norms by:Raising entry standards (particularly English-language proficiency);Raising financial requirements needed to enter Australia; andRemoving the link between studying, work rights and permanent residency. These reforms would lift student quality and would raise genuine export revenues per student. They would also help to improve teaching standards and the experience for domestic students, which should be our universities’ number one priority. We must restore Australia’s universities back to being about ‘higher learning’ rather than ‘higher earning’.(2) Denmark Cracks Down on Mass Migrationhttps://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/17450/denmark-mass-migrationDenmark Cracks Down on Mass Migration"The Current Asylum System Has Failed"by Soeren KernJune 8, 2021 at 5:00 amThe Danish Parliament has passed a new law that will allow the government to deport asylum seekers to countries outside of the European Union to have their cases considered abroad. (Photo by Sean Gallup/Getty Images)The Danish Parliament has passed a new law that will allow the government to deport asylum seekers to countries outside of the European Union to have their cases considered abroad. The legislation is widely seen as a first step toward moving the country's asylum screening process beyond Danish borders. The law, proposed by the Social Democrat-led government, is aimed at discouraging frivolous asylum applications. It has been greeted with fury by those who favor mass migration, presumably out of fear that other EU countries may now follow Denmark's lead.Denmark, which already has some of the most restrictive immigration policies in Europe, is at the vanguard of European efforts to preserve local traditions and values in the face of mass migration, runaway multiculturalism, and the systematic encroachment of political Islam. An amendment to the Aliens Act, approved on June 3 by 70 votes to 24, authorizes the government to enter into agreements with non-EU countries (so-called third countries) to allow it to "transfer third-country nationals and stateless persons who apply for asylum in Denmark to the third country in question for the purpose of substantive processing of asylum applications."Danish Immigration Minister Mattias Tesfaye, a Social Democrat and the son of an Ethiopian immigrant, told the Financial Times that Denmark had "identified a handful of countries," mostly in Africa, that might be open to hosting migrant reception centers. In April, Tesfaye signed a "Memorandum of Understanding" with Rwanda regarding "cooperation on asylum and migration issues." The document raised speculation that Denmark wants to transfer migrants to the East African country, which has a tradition of hosting refugees. The memorandum spelled out the Danish government's long-term objective:"Denmark is committed to finding new and sustainable solutions to the present migration and refugee challenges that affect countries of origin, transit and destination. The current asylum system is unfair and unethical by incentivizing children, women and men to embark on dangerous journeys along the migratory routes, while human traffickers earn fortunes."There is a need to finding new ways of addressing the migration challenges by promoting a fairer and more humane asylum system based on a comprehensive approach. This includes addressing the root causes of irregular migration, providing more and better protection of refugees in the regions of conflict and increasing assistance to host nations, countries of origin and transit — along the migratory routes — in order to improve border management, strengthen asylum systems and fight human smuggling."It is also the vision of the Danish Government that the processing of asylum applications should take place outside of the EU in order to break the negative incentive structure of the present asylum system."Advocates of mass migration have criticized Denmark's new law. The European Commission, the EU's powerful administrative arm, said that it had "fundamental concerns" about deporting asylum seekers to countries outside of Europe:"External processing of asylum claims raises fundamental questions about both the access to asylum procedures and effective access to protection. It is not possible under existing EU rules or proposals under the new pact for migration and asylum."Others have accused Denmark of seeking to "export" the asylum process. Gillian Triggs, assistant high commissioner of UNHCR, the United Nations' refugee agency, warned that "such practices undermine the rights of those seeking safety and protection, demonize and punish them and may put their lives at risk."UNHCR global spokesperson Shabia Mantoo added that the agency "remains firmly opposed to national initiatives that forcibly transfer asylum-seekers to other countries and undermine the principles of international refugee protection."In an interview with Euronews, Nikolas Feith Tan, a senior researcher at the Danish Institute for Human Rights, said that Denmark's plan to house asylum seekers outside its borders represents "a fundamental shift" in how the international protection system functions:"Up until now, refugee protection has been primarily territorial. If you reach Denmark, then Denmark is responsible for both assessing whether you are a refugee or not, and if you are a refugee, then for granting you protection. The new legislation shifts that idea of territorial asylum."Tan said that transferring asylum seekers abroad in principle does not violate international law, but that the government should still expect be sued in Danish courts and at the European Court of Human Rights.Tesfaye said that "a key aim" was to reduce the number of "spontaneous" asylum seekers to Denmark:"The current asylum system has failed. It is inefficient and unfair. Children, women and men are drowning in the Mediterranean or are abused along the migratory routes, while human traffickers earn fortunes."Other Measures to Curb Mass MigrationSince assuming power in June 2019, the government of Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has introduced a raft of measures aimed at curbing mass migration. The measures build on those implemented by previous governments.June 3, 2021. The Danish Parliament approved by 78 votes to 16 a new law that authorizes the government to revoke Danish citizenship from immigrants who are members of criminal gangs. The law is aimed at tackling a surge in migration-linked violent crime. The amendment to the Citizenship Act allows for the "denial of citizenship for certain forms of serious gang crimes considered detrimental to the vital interests of the State." The law applies only to dual nationals and not to gang members who, by losing their Danish citizenship, would become stateless. The new law, which is not retroactive, enters into force on July 1, 2021.Minister of Justice Nick Hækkerup said:"Gang crime in no way belongs in Denmark. When foreigners or persons to whom we in Denmark have granted Danish citizenship participate in the gangs' ruthless crime, it is a fundamental expression of contempt for the society of which they are a part. Therefore, it is good news that Parliament has today passed the government's bill to provide the opportunity to revoke citizenship in the event of serious gang crime to the serious detriment of the state's vital interests. It is a goal for the government to ensure that Danes can be safe in their everyday lives. When the gangs challenge that security, it must have noticeable consequences."May 26, 2021. The Danish Parliament approved by 67 votes to 26 a first-ever Repatriation Law which authorizes the government to deport failed asylum seekers and other migrants illegally in the country. The law allows the government to monitor foreigners' mobile phones in order to more easily identify and deport them. The law was approved amid reports that migrants who had been paid between 100,000 and 225,000 Danish kroner ($16,000 and $37,000) by the Danish government to leave the country took the money but then disappeared without actually leaving. Others took the money and left the country and later returned.Minister for Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye said:"We have too many foreigners without legal residence in Denmark who do not return home. It is unsustainable. Both for the individual and for the Danish state, which must spend money on accommodating these people.... The penalties have been increased for those with deportation orders who do not comply with their control obligations. Now we have taken the next step towards a coherent repatriation policy. It is intended to help more foreigners without legal residence to return to their home countries. I am glad that there is broad support for this in the parliament."May 6, 2021. The Danish government tightened citizenship rules. In future, individuals with criminal records will be excluded from obtaining Danish citizenship. Individuals found guilty of committing immigration or social security fraud must wait for six years for their citizenship application to be considered. The new rules also introduced an employment requirement. Applicants must have been in full-time employment or have been self-employed for at least three years and six months within the previous four years. Five questions about Danish values ??have been added to the citizenship test. Applicants will be required to correctly answer four out of the five questions. "There is great agreement among the parties to the agreement that it is crucial that an applicant has adopted Danish values," the government said in a statement.Minister for Foreign Affairs and Integration Mattias Tesfaye said:"We have to draw a line in the sand. People who have been imprisoned must not have Danish citizenship." [...]March 17, 2021. The Danish government announced a package of new proposals aimed at fighting "religious and cultural parallel societies" in Denmark. A cornerstone of the plan includes capping the percentage of "non-Western" immigrants and their descendants dwelling in any given residential neighborhood. The aim is to preserve social cohesion in the country by encouraging integration and discouraging ethnic and social self-segregation.March 9, 2021. The Danish Parliament approved a new law that bans foreign governments from financing mosques in Denmark. The measure is aimed at preventing Muslim countries, particularly Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, from promoting Islamic extremism in Danish mosques and prayer facilities.March 9, 2021. The Danish Parliament approved by 96 votes to 0 a new law that bans religious marriages of minors and forced marriages. ...February 18, 2021. The Danish government announced that it would review the residency status of 350 Syrian migrants from Syria. The move came after the Danish Refugee Board decided that the Rif Damascus region of Syria is now safe and that there is no longer a basis for granting or extending temporary residence permits. ...In an interview with Danish broadcaster DR on June 3, MP Rasmus Stoklund said that if someone seeks refuge in Denmark in the future, he or she must expect to be deported to a third country: "Therefore, we hope that people will stop seeking asylum in Denmark."Soeren Kern is a Senior Fellow at the New York-based Gatestone Institute.(3) Anarchist eco-Terrorists sabotgae oil train in Washingtonhttps://thepostmillennial.com/report-washington-oil-train-derailment-caused-by-sabotageJun 8, 2021 4:18 PM ESTReport: Washington oil-train derailment caused by sabotageThe disaster resembled what alleged eco-terrorists have been attempting and arrested for in Washington state since early 2020.June 8, 2021 4:18 PMA rail union official reportedly told investigators that a fiery oil train derailment north of Seattle in December was caused by sabotage. On December 22, 2020 at 11:45 AM, 10 BNSF train cars carrying crude oil derailed and caught fire in Custer, WA. Plumes of black smoke rose into the sky near the Canadian border. No injuries were reported in the derailment. A BNSF Railway spokeswoman said that the train was comprised of "around 108 cars" and was carrying crude oil to the Phillips 66 refinery in Ferndale when the cars derailed. At the time, the disaster resembled what alleged eco-terrorists have been attempting and arrested for in Washington state since early in 2020.According to a hearing transcript of the investigation obtained by KUOW, half a mile behind the locomotive on the mile long train, two tanker cars un-coupled. This should have triggered the emergency brakes. Instead, the 15,000-ton train’s two halves separated without stopping. The 45 tanker cars on the now un-coupled second half of the train accelerated to twice the speed limit for a full load of hazardous material then impacted with the front tanker cars, causing the derailment and resulting fire.According to the transcript obtained by KUOW, Korey McDaniel with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers while consulting for the union’s safety team told BNSF Railway investigators "We know from the FBI investigation, from how trains operate, how trains work, how the couplers work, how the pin lifters work, that this incident was caused without a doubt by sabotage."KUOW reported that a driver reported seeing two young men emerge from the tracks several minutes before the train derailed. The Post Millennial previously reported that the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force has been investigating the placement of "shunts" on the BNSF tracks since January 2020. Former US Attorney Brian Moran said at the time, "…since January there have been 41 incidents of shunts placed on the BNSF tracks in Whatcom and Skagit counties—causing crossing guards to malfunction, interfering with automatic braking systems, and, in one case, causing the near-derailment of tanks of hazardous chemicals."On Nov. 28, two women from Bellingham, Samantha Frances Brooks, 27, and Ellen Brennan Reiche, 23, were arrested and charged with terrorism after an attack on BNSF railroad by allegedly placing a "shunt" on the tracks which disrupts the low-level electrical current on the tracks and can disable the train’s safety features. The town of Custer where the derailment occurred is located just north of Bellingham near the Washington state and Canadian border.According to the Justice Department, the device is comprised of magnets and wires that are stretched between the tracks. On a now-deleted LinkedIn page, Reiche was previously employed as a Deputy Field Organizer for Washington State Democrats. In the criminal complaint, the Justice Department noted a potential connection between the alleged terrorists and anarchist groups. Claims of responsibility for the attacks as well as mentions of train sabotage were posted by the Puget Sound Anarchists on It's Going Down, a popular anarchist website which regularly engages in "doxxing" and harassment of Trump supporters and right-wing groups. The site lauded praise on the 'autonomous zones' in the Pacific Northwest and other anarchist actions and events."Following the initial shunting incidents on January 19, 2020, a claim of responsibility was published on the anarchist website itsgoingdown.org on January 22, 2020. This claim of responsibility stated that the shunting activity was carried out in solidarity with Native American tribes in Canada seeking to prevent the construction of an oil pipeline across British Columbia, and with the express goal of disrupting BNSF operations and supplies for the pipeline."The case is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board as well as FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, which includes agents from Customs and Border Protection, in connection with the BNSF Railway Police and the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office. On October 11 and 12, multiple shunts were placed in three different locations in Whatcom and Skagit Counties. The shunts triggered the automatic braking system of a train that was transporting hazardous and combustible material. The emergency braking caused a portion of the train to decouple from the engine. Decoupling has the potential to cause a derailment, similar to what happened in Custer. The FBI has not revealed if it has any suspects in the December derailment and likely won’t until the FBI, the Federal Railroad Administration, and the NTSB complete their inquiries.(4) Judge Orders Virginia School to Reinstate Teacher Who Refused to Use Transgender Pronounshttps://www.theepochtimes.com/mkt_breakingnews/judge-knocks-out-suspension-of-virginia-teacher-who-spoke-against-forced-use-of-woke-pronouns_3849732.htmlJudge Orders Virginia School to Reinstate Teacher Who Refused to Use Transgender PronounsBY MARK TAPSCOTT June 8, 2021 Updated: June 8, 2021A Virginia state court judge on Tuesday directed Loudoun County School System officials to withdraw their suspension and other disciplinary measures against a teacher who declined to use students’ preferred pronouns.Elementary school teacher Byron Tanner Cross was suspended May 27 after briefly speaking against a proposal to require teachers in the Northern Virginia public school system to address students by their preferred pronouns, rather than only by those indicating male and female gender.Cross was also barred from being on the grounds of any of the school system’s facilities without prior permission and to be available on request to discuss the official investigation of whether his comments were disruptive.Represented by attorneys from the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), an Arizona-based public interest law firm that specializes in civil and religious liberties litigation, Cross asked the Virginia Circuit Court for the County of Loudoun on June 1 to force the school system to withdraw its disciplinary actions via a Temporary Restraining Order while the case proceeds.Cross claimed the suspension and related penalties were retaliation for his comments, which were protected by the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of speech.Judge James E. Plowman of Virginia’s Twentieth Judicial Circuit, agreed, saying "here, it is clear the plaintiff was speaking as a citizen, not in his official capacity. His speech was not conducted at his usual place of employment, occurred during non-working hours and at a forum where public comment was invited."Plaintiff had to abide by the same process to speak as any other citizen. Although this was not formally conceded by the Defendants, analysis of this was not argued."Plowman agreed that the weight of the evidence suggests Cross is likely to prevail, as well as that he suffered "irreparable harm" in the violation of his First Amendment rights, and that he was suspended "due to his speech, barred from further speech, and similarly situated employees have been chilled from speech because of Defendants’ actions."As a result, the judge ruled that "the plaintiff’s request for a temporary injunction against the defendants is hereby granted. Defendants shall immediately reinstate the plaintiff to his position as it was prior to the issuance of his suspension and remove the ban that was placed upon him from all buildings and grounds of Loudoun County Public Schools."Unless an out-of-court settlement is reached between the parties, the case will be heard later this year.Mike Farris, ADF’s president, hailed the decision, saying in a statement Tuesday that, "nobody should be punished for expressing concern about a proposed government policy, especially when the government invites comment on that policy. For that reason, we are pleased at the court’s decision to halt Loudoun County Public Schools’ retaliation against Tanner Cross while his lawsuit continues."Farris, himself a long-time resident of Loudoun County and former president of Patrick Henry College located there, added that, "educators are just like everybody else — they have ideas and opinions that they should be free to express. Advocating for solutions they believe in should not cost them their jobs."School officials singled out his speech, offered in his private capacity at a public meeting, as ‘disruptive’ and then suspended him for speaking his mind. That’s neither legal nor constitutional. Dozens of other teachers have shared their beliefs on various policies without retaliation; Tanner deserves to be treated with the same respect."The ADF has won a dozen decisions in the U.S. Supreme Court in recent years, including the landmark Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission in 2018 that upheld decorator Jack Phillips’ right to decline to include messages on cakes that violate his religious convictions.Congressional correspondent Mark Tapscott may be contacted at mark.tapscott@epochtimes.nyc(5) Teacher suspended for speaking out against compelled pronouns REINSTATEDhttps://thepostmillennial.com/breaking-teacher-who-spoke-out-against-compelled-pronouns-reinstatedJun 9, 2021 3:12 AM ESTBREAKING: Teacher suspended for speaking out against compelled pronouns REINSTATEDA gym teacher who was suspended after refusing to use students preferred pronouns has been reinstated. He made the refusal due to his Christian beliefs.Tanner Cross was suspended from his post teaching physical education at Leesburg Elementary School in Loudon County, Virg. last week after he told the school board that they could not force him to tell to tell students that biological sex was a mutable human condition. He was represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom, which posted a statement reading: "Tanner Cross, a Virginia elementary school teacher and ADF client who was suspended for raising concerns to the board about a proposed gender policy, has won a temporary injunction and the judge has ordered his reinstatement. A massive victory for freedom of speech." This according to local news. [...]Cross said in his speech "I am speaking out of love for those who are suffering from gender dysphoria," and referenced a segment from 60 Minutes that dealt with detransitioners, or those who undergo gender transition, and then find themselves having to reverse the process, but are left with permanent, irreversible changes to their bodies."It's not my intention to hurt anyone, but there are certain truths that we must face when ready. We condemn school policies [that] would damage children, defile the holy image of God," Cross said."I love all of my students but I will never lie to them regardless of the consequences. I'm a teacher but I serve God first and I will not affirm that a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa because it's against my religion," he said. "It's lying to a child, it's abuse to a child, and it's sinning against our God."(6) AOC criticises Kamala Harris for telling migrants "do not come"https://www.bizpacreview.com/2021/06/08/aoc-calls-harris-immigration-comments-disappointing-1085888/Ocasio-Cortez NOT happy with Kamala Harris’ convenient new message for migrantsJune 8, 2021 | Kay ApfelVice President Kamala Harris took a surprisingly Trumpian stance on illegal immigration at a joint press conference with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei in her first international visit Monday.Radical Democrat darling, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a champion for open borders, said the one-eighty from Harris was "disappointing".Harris took the hardline after Giammattei pointed to Biden administration policies like family reunification, a root cause of human trafficking, as harbingers for the U.S. illegal immigration crisis.Harris spoke during a press conference after privately meeting with Giammattei."I want to emphasize that the goal of our work is to help Guatemalans find hope at home, at the same time I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making the dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border — do not come, do not come," the vice president said.Ocasio-Cortez posted her reaction on Twitter:The vice president’s warning to those thinking of coming here illegally marks an about-face from her previous statements. In 2018, Harris visited the southern border and criticized the Trump administration’s "zero-tolerance policy" on immigration. This time last year, she raised her hand on stage during a presidential debate in support of free healthcare for illegal immigrants.Conservative Twitter user Comfortably Smug pointed out an old tweet from Kamala stating, "Say it loud, say it clear, everyone is welcome here. #NoBanNoWall", followed by the video of her yesterday urging those considering illegal immigration to the United States to stay home.President Biden positioned Harris as his border czar months ago to handle the growing immigration crisis. Today, 139 days into the administration, will mark Harris’ first visit to Mexico to address the crisis after border detentions surged to a 21-month high in April of more than 178,000.Republicans were not shy in criticizing Harris for her convenient flip-flop:(7) Many Hispanic Voters Now Voting Republicanhttps://www.theepochtimes.com/many-hispanic-voters-now-voting-republican-due-to-trump-values-rubio_3849157.htmlMany Hispanic Voters Now Voting Republican Due to Trump ‘Values’: RubioBY ZACHARY STIEBER June 8, 2021 Updated: June 8, 2021Hispanic voters shifting to the GOP stems from former President Donald Trump’s values and the Republican Party can lock in the gains provided GOP officials remain focused on the same values, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) says.Rubio, a Cuban-American, told Breitbart News that Hispanic voters in Miami swung to Trump in 2020 in part because they’re against socialism."These are communities made up of people who value commonsense wisdom and working class values," Rubio said."That’s what their life is built on. Those are two things the left has abandoned. You hear lots of people talk about whether it’s socialism. Socialism is a part of it. Socialism is a part of the commonsense part of it. In their mind, if I were to step in the shoes of someone who maybe voted for Obama in 2012, then voted for Donald Trump in 2020, they would say to you: ‘Look, I came from a socialist country. I fled it. Why the hell would we do that here?’ It makes no sense to them."According to exit polls, Trump saw more support from Hispanics in 2020 than 2016. In several key areas, Hispanic votes shifted significantly. For instance, in Florida, 35 percent of Hispanics voted for Trump in 2016; in 2020, that figure was close to 50 percent, according to a CNN exit poll. Overall, Democrat Joe Biden, who won the election, won 65 percent of the Hispanic/Latino vote. The gain among Hispanics was further seen last week, when Republicans flipped a mayoral seat in McAllen, a border city that’s approximately 85 percent Hispanic, held onto a mayoral seat in Fort Worth, and won the race for mayor in Arlington.A poll conducted in April (pdf) on behalf of the National Republican Senatorial Committee found that a majority of Hispanic voters said they support capitalism over socialism and worry that America is declining so much that their children will not have the same opportunities that drew them to the country in the first place.About 50 percent of respondents said that Democrat policies end up hurting Hispanic families and generally aligned with conservatives’ views on biological males playing in women’s sports, cancel culture, and the power Big Tech holds."If you look at these poll numbers, Hispanics across the country are Republicans," Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) told reporters in Washington last month.New Mexico Democratic political consultant Sisto Abeyta told Axios recently that Democrats need to turn their attention to areas previously believed to be solid blue."Democrats need to change the narrative and start talking about jobs," Abeyta said. "They need to invest and engage and not take these districts for granted. These voters are up for grabs now."The shift toward the GOP among Hispanics will be permanent, Rubio told Breitbart, provided Republicans continue to focus on the values that Trump promoted."I think President Trump was doing a lot of things based on common sense. In their mind, it made all the sense in the world. They don’t understand why their side is against it. And then working class values—most of these people here don’t care what you do with your life, they don’t want to tell you how to live your life, who to marry, who to love, and so forth—but you’re asking them to abandon three or four thousand years of accumulated human wisdom because a handful of crazy professors have convinced people everything we knew was true is no longer true on things like gender, on this or that," Rubio said."These guys just got turned off by all that, and I think it accelerated through the summer on the pandemic and the rioting and all of that. I think that shift is permanent unless we as Republicans go back to being who we used to be—then we give these people no political home."Follow Zachary on Twitter: @zackstieberFollow Zachary on Parler: @zackstieber
