Ford, is lacking one feature: urinals. Every bathroom on the Ford is, for the first time, gender-neutral, equipped with flush toilets and stalls, according to Navy Times. Bathroom-design experts have said sit-down toilets are less sanitary and take up more space, and most of the Ford's crew members are men. (Women are only about 18% of the Navy.) But the Navy has said getting rid of urinals has advantages for current and future operations. Making every bathroom accessible to all of the ship's sailors will make things more convenient for sailors, the Navy has said. And bathrooms that can be used by either gender mean the Navy can reassign them without making any design changes, should the crew's makeup change. "This is designed to give the ship flexibility because there aren’t any berthing areas that are dedicated to one sex or the other," Operations Specialist 1st Class Kaylea Motsenbocker told Navy Times. "So if this space was needed for males, we could shift the females to other berthing areas and make this all male without any modification being necessary." Other changes include redesigned sleeping areas with fewer beds in each room, different spaces for sleeping and recreation, wider passageways, better gyms, better air conditioning, and more efficient light bulbs. USB ports have been installed to make it easier for sailors to charge cellphones and other devices. Beyond the bathrooms, the Ford — which is the first Ford-class aircraft carrier — has 23 new or modified technologies. The ship's island is smaller and farther back on the flight deck, allowing more space for air operations. Inside, the traditional throttle system has been switched out for an updated, one-of-a-kind touch-screen display. "This ship can basically drive itself," Petty Officer 1st Class Jose Triana told CNN. In addition to carrying more aircraft, the Ford will also use the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System rather than steam power used on Nimitz-class ships. The EMALS system is designed to offer more control and precision when launching aircraft and will be used despite President Donald Trump's vocal objection earlier this year. The EMALS system is also part of the Ford's switch to electrical power. The ship will be able to produce three times as much power as Nimitz-class ships, and the Navy has said replacing steam-powered systems with electrical ones will open space for future technologies. USS Gerald FordUS Navy/Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Aidan P. Campbell Flight operations will also use the Advanced Arresting Gear system to recover aircraft. The AAG system will allow Ford-class ships to work with air systems that Nimitz-class ships are not interoperable with. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Ridge Leoni/Released) The new aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford has all sorts of high-tech gear equipped for 21st century naval warfare. But there is one thing that male sailors will notice is no longer available: Urinals. For the first time, every bathroom on the Ford — known throughout military circles as a head — is designed to be "gender-neutral," meaning all of the urinals have been replaced with flush toilets and stalls, Navy officials say. The vast majority of the 5,000-plus sailors who will deploy aboard the carrier Ford are men, as women account for only about 18 percent of sailors in the Navy. Bathroom design experts say water closets with seated toilets are less sanitary and take up far more space than wall-mounted urinals. Nevertheless, the Navy says there are advantages to eliminating urinals. It will allow the Navy to quickly and efficiently change a head’s assigned gender, so depending on the ship’s demographics at the time, berthing areas can be switched between male and female to accommodate the crew’s needs. "This is designed to give the ship flexibility because there aren’t any berthing areas that are dedicated to one sex or the other," Operations Specialist 1st Class Kaylea Motsenbocker told Navy Times recently. Every head on the Ford is being integrated into a berthing, she said. (3) Military scrambles for transgender policy after Trump tweets http://www.navytimes.com/news/your-military/2017/08/04/military-scrambles-for-transgender-policy-after-trump-tweets/ By: Lolita C. Baldor, The Associated Press WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s tweets declaring transgender people unwelcome in the armed forces have plunged the Pentagon into a legal and moral quagmire, sparking a flurry of meetings to devise a new policy that could lead to hundreds of service members being discharged. Months after officially allowing transgender troops to serve openly in the military, the department may be forced to throw out those who willingly came forward after being promised they’d be protected. A team of military lawyers has been pulled together to deal with the matter, Adm. Paul Zukunft, the Coast Guard commandant, said at the Center For Strategic and International Studies this week. These lawyers are working with the White House to flesh out some of the issues, and they’re bolstered by a Pentagon working group that had initially been set up to advance the implementation of the Obama administration’s year-old repeal of a transgender ban. Now, they must deal with whatever new post-tweet policy emerges, according to the officials, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity. Pentagon chief spokeswoman Dana White confirmed that talks between the White House and the Pentagon to work out the details of a new transgender policy have begun. Although it’s unclear what the result will be, the discussions illustrate that Trump’s aides aren’t writing off his three-tweet salvo last week as an isolated outburst but as guidance for an upheaval in one of the military’s most sensitive equal rights questions. Whatever the final policy, court challenges are likely. And the personnel, health care and fairness issues sure to ensue may compel some soldiers, sailors and others to hide their identities and live a lie to remain in the military. It’s a scenario that raises the specter of the now-defunct "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy that once governed gays in the military. While the 1993 compromise banned gay men and women from serving, it essentially safeguarded their places in the ranks as long as they kept their homosexuality hidden. More than 13,000 were discharged after the policy was enacted. While many others remained, they were forced to keep their sexuality in the closet. Now, asks Sarah Warbelow, legal director for the Human Rights Campaign, "Are they going to go on a witch hunt?" The Pentagon working group had been studying health care questions and how and when transgender people might be allowed to enlist. Now its members and the military’s legal experts must contemplate forcing out transgender troops, including many who have served multiple combat tours. If Trump stands by his tweet and the Pentagon is told to beginning discharging transgender service members, officials must address several questions: Who would be thrown out? What type of discharge would they receive? How long of a grace period would they have before leaving? There also is no uniform method of tracking transgender troops across the services. That raises another challenge. Will the Pentagon target service members who have already asked to have their sex changed in the personnel system? Or would the crackdown expand to anyone who simply sought counseling on the issue? Warbelow questioned where the effort would end. People could be scrutinized for how they look or dress. For example, she suggested, could female troops be suspect for wearing clothing considered "too masculine?" Trump’s tweets last week were direct. He said the government won’t accept or allow transgender individuals to serve "in any capacity" in the military. "Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail," he wrote. Estimates of the number of transgender troops in the service vary widely. A Rand Corp. study said roughly 2,500 transgender personnel may be serving in the active duty military, and 1,500 in the reserves. It estimated only 30 to 130 active duty troops out of a force of 1.3 million would seek transition-related health care each year. Costs could be $2.4 million to $8.4 million, it estimated. The study found 18 other countries allow transgender people to serve openly in the military. "In no case was there any evidence of an effect on the operational effectiveness, operational readiness, or cohesion of the force," Rand said. After Trump’s tweets, Zukunft the commandant said, "the first thing we did is we reached out to all 13 members of the Coast Guard who have come out." But any reassurance Pentagon officials offered may prove hollow under a new policy. Since last year, transgender service members have been able to serve openly in the military, receive medical care and start formally changing their gender identifications in the Pentagon’s personnel system. About five weeks ago, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis gave military chiefs more time to determine if allowing transgender people to enlist would affect force readiness or effectiveness. Trump’s pronouncement triggered bipartisan denunciations. Military and other officials described it as the latest example of Trump’s administration struggling to translate the commander-in-chief’s Twitter proclamations into actual policy. Until the Pentagon gets a new policy directive in writing, Gen. Joseph Dunford, the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, and other military leaders have said nothing will change. (4) Arizona School blockades urinals after girls squat to urinate in front of the boys https://gendertrender.wordpress.com/tag/urinals/ GenderTrender Arizona Elementary School blockades all urinals in boy’s bathrooms after multiple incidents involving female "transgender" children March 28, 2014 Tucson Unified School District officials held a meeting for parents Wednesday – closed to media cameras and recorders- in response to ongoing issues surrounding elementary school restroom use by children classified as transgender, KOLD Tucson News Now reports. Anna Henry Elementary in Tucson has blocked off all urinals in boys restrooms for the time being, following multiple incidents of girls who identify as male reportedly squatting over the urinals to void, pulling down their underwear in front of boys, and causing privacy issues with boys who were upset by girls watching them urinate. Closing the urinals to all students of both sexes has been the district’s immediate solution until privacy partitions are installed between all the urinals so that the girls can continue to use them in expression of their personal identification with male reproductive biology.  From KOLD : "Susan Wright said her 10-year old son was using the urinal when a student he identified as a female walked in on him. Concerned parent Danya Ayers said she knew of another incident where a boy was very uncomfortable after a child he knew as a girl removed her underpants in front of him. "My son won’t even let me go in the bathroom with him, he won’t let a female teacher go in with him, this did not make him comfortable," said Wright. TUSD officials held a meeting at Anna Henry Elementary to discuss transgender student issues. The district spent over $1,000 to hire national experts to discuss what being a transgender meant. The experts would also train staff members and act as consultants." Parents of the transgender children said that boys who did not want to share urinals with girls should use "alternative bathrooms". From KVOA: "One parent said "If your child is not comfortable using the bathroom, ask them to use the alternative bathroom." Anna Henry Elementary has roughly 400 students. Between one to two percent are officially classified as "transgender’ according to a KVOA report. Several parents quoted in the news reports make clear that they are not at all bigoted or "anti-LGBT". Comments on the news articles from parents and family of students (see screen-caps below) seem to indicate the main upset is caused by girls actually squatting over the now closed urinals to void in full view of the boys. The "National expert" hired by the district is paid speaker Kim Pearson of the fringe group Trans Youth Family Allies (TYFA), which she co-founded with male transsexual Jen Burleton, who was ejected from the org after the suicide of TYFA teen Ian Benson. Pearson has been charged with falsifying data on gender-nonconforming children. TYFA is funded by adult crossdressers and transgenders who support Pearson’s philosophy that gender nonconforming children should be used to "take the sex out" of the public face of the transgender movement. TYFA president Andrea James famously posted pictures of sexologist Michael Bailey’s elementary school aged daughter with captions calling the child a "cocksucker". Carol Grimsby, executive director of Arizona’s Wingspan LGBT also made an appearance, although a radio interview following up the meeting gave the impression that she was confused and ill-equipped to answer parent’s concerns on either side of the issue. KVOA reports that "Many parents left the meeting feeling uneasy and unsatisfied with TUSD’s response to the issue. School officials said they were still discussing how they would handle matters for the district as a whole." (5) Arizona leftists perverting the school system - Michael Reagan {son of Ronald Reagan} http://www.newsmax.com/Reagan/bathrooms-arizona-school/2014/05/26/id/573349/ Unisex School Bathrooms in Ariz. Miss the Point By Michael Reagan {son of Ronald Reagan} Monday, 26 May 2014 10:51 AM Maybe one reason Americans are so concerned about the quality of the education their children are receiving, is they are constantly bombarded with news stories that call into real question the quality of the educators in charge of the education. The latest example comes to us from Tucson, Ariz. There Tucson Unified School District lawyers have ruled the school system must allow young students to use any bathroom they choose regardless of the sexual equipment God gave them. At first I thought that maybe Tucson education was so bad and the pressure to enhance "self–esteem" so high that the school district didn’t want to stigmatize those students who didn’t possess enough reading comprehension to distinguish between "Boys" and "Girls." But that’s not the case after all. It’s just another example of leftists perverting the school system and using it to indoctrinate defenseless young people. It would seem to me that before changing a policy as basic as who gets to use the boys room, the administration would ask a simple question: How will this contribute to educating our children? Short answer for this policy: It won’t. In fact the change will confuse and distract school children in an effort to appease the sexual far left. One really must question the inner motivation of these sexual fanatics. In Tucson they want to make bathrooms a free–fire zone and in other areas of the U.S., they are working to ban the overwhelmingly successful — and optional — boys–only and girls–only classroom. In fact the only same–sex arrangements the left supports are found in marriage. Jonathan Scruggs of the Alliance Defending Freedom points out the legal reasoning the Tucson lawyers used is both faulty and ignorant. In a 2009 ruling the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals — normally the left’s favorite black–robed potentates — ruled that public schools can use common sense and separate bathrooms by sex "for safety reasons" without violating Title IX. Scruggs comment was, "No court has held that schools or other institutions must allow students to access opposite-sex restrooms or changing areas." Naturally parents who support the natural order are enraged and appalled by the policy change. They packed a school meeting to protest the unnecessary change. There they learned that at least at one elementary school the great minds in the administration had blocked all urinals in the boys and told the customers to use only the stalls. The final goal, unless sanity prevails, will be for all the urinals to have there own little fenced in area. Your tax dollars at work. Michael Reagan is the son of President Ronald Reagan. He is president of The Reagan Legacy Foundation and chairman of the League of American Voters. The surprise announcement took place in an exchange with NewStatesman editor Helen Lewis, in response to her op-ed in The Times titled "A Man Can’t Just Say He Has Turned Into A Woman". Lewis wrote the piece addressing the feminist backlash against UK’s proposed "self identification" Gender Identity process, which would allow any man at the stroke of a pen to be legally regarded as "female" to access women’s change rooms, scholarships, hospital wards, sports competitions, abuse shelters, jail cells, etc. You can read her piece here (paywall): https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/comment/a-man-can-t-just-say-he-has-turned-into-a-woman-m5lltcgv7 Benjamin Cohen, a gay anti-feminist activist who has used his platform to lobby against the rights of lesbians to hold female-only events on the grounds that they discriminate against the sexual rights of heterosexual males, initiated the exchange after publishing the following article on his Pink News site: Cohen then tweeted at Helen Lewis from his @benjamincohen account, asking "Why do people like @helenlewis always turn trans rights into "someone with a beard exposing their penis in the women’s changing room?" He included a screen cap with the following quote from her article: "What the government proposes is a radical rewriting of our understanding of identity: now it’s a question of an internal essence- a soul, if you will. Being a woman or a man is now entirely in your head. In this climate, who would challenge someone with a beard exposing their penis in a women’s changing room? That’s why feminists have raised the alarm over the move to self-identification, along with some older trans people who fear that "trendsters" will erode the goodwill they have worked hard to aquire." Helen Lewis responded, "Hi Ben, as a man I don’t expect you to get how much women value single-sex spaces for safety reasons. But I would expect you to listen." The Twitter exchange Benjamin Cohen responded in no uncertain terms: he believes transwomen with visible facial hair should be prosecuted as sex offenders. He stated: "Your example" [of a male with facial hair disrobing in women’s change rooms] would still be indecent exposure, so why link it to trans rights?" (7) Comments on Trump Trans Ban from Army Times Facebook https://www.armytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2017/07/26/trump-says-transgender-troops-cant-serve-in-the-military/ A sample of comments form Army Times Facebook, He was advised by his top generals. Have served myself. I believe it is the right decision. And no one is taking their rights away from being transsexual. They can still be transsexual just not in the military. The point of the article is that Trump is correct, these people are not fit for duty. They have to take constant hormone injections to keep themselves in the manner of which they want to be. If they can’t get those injections, hormonal imbalances could become a threat to the forces. If they become suicidal that is a mission problem and they could become dangerous to others like the rest of the insane people who go on mass shootings. This is not Obamas military anymore. He did not come to this conclusion on his own. Many military leaders that have protected this country came to this conclusion and there right! Even if we say it is not a mental health issue! The medications they are in should make them non deployable! Last time I checked if your non deployable your not joining! Even if that were true! Which it is not! Pill form for trans people is least effective way. So that leaves what treatment? You think that’s gonna be available in the back of striker? Your nuts. Liam Strausbaugh They’re are typically on heavier doses of either testosterone or estrogen. These are hormones that have a huge impact on the brains chemistry and effect everything from muscle and fat distribution to moods and behavior. Even if they’re allowed to be deployed, just like soldiers with certain levels of ptsd, doesn’t mean they should. Excellent decision. The taxpayers should not be burdened with a mental patient who wants to have a sexual identity change surgery. Women in the military do not want to shower next to men and men do not want to shower next to what was once a woman who thinks she’s a man because she’s a mental case Praise the leaders….If you actually read the article Trump isn’t the only one who decided this, a lot of high ranking officers and leaders also came to this conclusion and they all agreed. It costs the government a lot of money and if you haven’t been in the military before don’t act like you know anything about what goes on behind close doors. More to it than you think. https://www.facebook.com/armytimes/ Gallus, sorry for straying off topic. It’s rare to see Trump doing something right for once. Hecate Says: July 27, 2017 at 5:16 pm I’ve been involved with the military in one form or another all my life. My father was 20 plus years Navy. A sailor with a Vietnam deployment. My ex hubby was 20 plus years Army. Cavalry officer that served on the east/west german border during the cold war and a 2005 Iraq deployment. The military is not a social experiment ground. The military is not where you seek your individuality. It is not there to validate you. Hold you up as special and unique. It is not the place you flaunt your ‘differentness’. These things, as a matter of fact, detract from the cohesiveness that is required for the military to operate successfully. Espirit de corps, the fuel that powers our military members to such a great degree, comes from unity, brotherhood, and a sense of inherent knowing that all are equal. The military is not Walmart. Special concessions for employment are not made. The policy has always been strict physical/mental wellbeing as these issues impact readiness. You want to know how this type of social contagion impacts your military? Stop listening to the talking heads on your tv and twitter feeds spouting their bullshit rhetoric, and start listening to your military. Your service members tell you loud and clear what destroys readiness, tears down espirit de corps, and makes units dysfunctional. Listen to them. -- Peter Myers website: http://mailstar.net/index.html |
